Designed as a single-storey dwelling with a deep connection to nature and light, this home features clever integration for an extensive book collection. A porous design philosophy places windows opposite one another to maximize cross-ventilation and views. Throughout the home, tall raked ceilings create grand, airy spaces within a modest footprint, while the material palette seamlessly extends the outdoors inside. This project, designed while in practice at Alvaro Architects, is now entering the construction phase.

This multi-unit residential proposal successfully navigated a complex matrix of constraints, including an above-ground on-site detention tank over an active sewer line, proximity to a neighbouring Aboriginal heritage site, and stringent Council compliance requirements. The resulting design features a biophilic facade that softens the built form and deepens the project’s connection to the surrounding environment. Designed in collaboration while in practice at Alvaro Architects, this project is now officially entering the construction phase.

Designed in collaboration while in practice at Alvaro Architects, the project was successfully completed and constructed in 2023.
